1. SCRIPTURE
2. OBSERVATIONS :
3. APPLICATION:
What does this passage tell me about Jesus?
Jesus knew Peter better than Peter knew himself and Jesus knows me better than I know myself. Even though Peter denied Jesus three times Jesus did not disown Peter. He showed mercy in response to Peter’s weakness and sin.
What does this passage teach me about myself/mankind?
This story serves as a warning against pride and self-confidence. Peter shows us our need to depend on the Holy Spirit, rather than ourselves, for the courage we need to stand for Jesus in the face of persecution.
How does this passage impact my affections, attitudes and actions?
I will be slow to declare and boast about what I will do for Jesus. Instead, I will humbly ask the Lord to fill me with His Spirit so that when my allegiance to Christ is challenged and tested, I will have the courage and power to stand boldly for Christ.
4. PRAYER:
“Dear Jesus, thank you for filling me with the Holy Spirit. I know that as I walk in the Spirit, I will have the courage and power needed so I will never deny you like Peter did. I pray that my confidence will always be in you, rather than in myself. If know that apart from you I can do nothing (John 15:5) but if I remain in you and your words remain in me, I may ask for anything and it will be granted! (John 15:7)
In Your name, Amen.
