Our Beliefs
The following statements are a summary of our beliefs. To read our official Statement of Fundamental Truths go here.
About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. We believe that the one true God exists eternally in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that these, being one God, are equal in deity, power, and glory. (Genesis 1:1,26-27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; I Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:1)
About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was virgin-born, lived a sinless human life, demonstrated His authority through many miracles, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to His Father in heaven, and is coming again. He will return someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:18-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:3,10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer enabling them to live the abundant life and display the character of Christ. The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to witness and endows spiritual gifts, by which the church is built up and those who are searching find eternal life in Christ. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. (John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16-17, 12-14; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18; Romans 12)
About Salvation
Jesus’s purpose in coming, dying, and rising again was to rescue people who had become separated from God as a result of their sin. In the New Testament, this rescue mission is referred to as “Salvation”. Salvation is offered to us as a free gift when we place our trust in Jesus as our Savior and Lord. Salvation is God’s work of turning his enemies into his children. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn away from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Christ alone secures salvation. (Romans 5:1; 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; John 10:27-28)
About the Church
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head. The purpose of the church is to gather believers to glorify God by being a powerful witness for Jesus Christ in a lost world. God wants to edify and build up His church; this is why the Holy Spirit gives a variety of spiritual gifts to believers, such as encouragement, serving, teaching, healing, prophecy, etc. We practice two ordinances in the church, which were instituted by Christ Himself: water baptism and holy communion. (Col. 1:18; Matt. 28:18-20; Romans 12, 1 Cor. 12; Luke 3:21-22; Luke 22:14-20)
About the Bible
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God it is the Truth without any mixture or error.
