In honor of our upcoming financial peace university semester, I thought now would be a good time to look at how the same truths that the bible has for our finances also apply to our parenting.
Think about it: If the goal is to pay off debt or save for a new car, we look at the end goal. Wise financial decisions are made with the end result as the motivator for every day choices. The same is true with parenting!
If you were asked the question “how do you want your son or daughter to end up as an adult?”, for most of us it goes without saying that we would want our kids to be powerful men and women of God that are able to disciple their families and reach their communities! If this is the desired end goal, then what are we doing today to reach the goal?
“Widen The Circle”
In Next gen ministries a popular phrase we use is “widen the circle”. Widening the circle is surrounding your family with christian adults that will increase the influence of Christ in the lives of our family (especially our kids). We can’t do life alone. We were created for Christian community! A really easy way to widen the circle for your family is by joining a Life Group.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 tells us this- “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up”. These verses are directed at both parents and the church. The church and families are to join together to teach, disciple, and train up the next generation to follow Christ! What a powerful picture of grace!
So let me leave you with this question: Have you widened the circle for your family?
Think about it.
